Why memory care transport is different

What makes transporting dementia patients uniquely challenging?

A patient with dementia experiences every trip differently. An unfamiliar driver, a different vehicle, a change in routine — any of these can trigger confusion, anxiety, or resistance that makes the trip distressing for both patient and family. Standard rideshares and taxis are entirely unsuitable.

Memory care patients may not be able to communicate their needs, may resist boarding, may become disoriented in transit, or may not understand why they are in the vehicle. A driver who is not prepared for these situations can inadvertently escalate them.

DachiPlus assigns consistent drivers for memory care patients and provides family members and care coordinators with direct contact information so they can brief the driver before each trip and receive arrival confirmations.

Consistent driver assignment

Same driver for every trip, wherever possible. Familiarity reduces anxiety and resistance. Your family member will recognize the driver over time.

Family coordination

We communicate directly with the family member or care coordinator before and after every trip. You never have to wonder if they arrived safely.

Patient, calm demeanor

Drivers are instructed to be patient, use simple language, speak calmly, and never rush. We always allow extra boarding and exit time.

No unattended patients

For memory care patients, we ensure door-to-door handoff — the patient is never left waiting alone at a facility entrance or in a waiting area without staff confirmation.

Recurring appointments

What types of appointments do memory care patients need transportation for?

Neurology & memory clinics

Ongoing neurology and geriatric psychiatry follow-up for Alzheimer's, vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, and other memory disorders.

Adult day programs

Daily or multi-day-per-week transport to memory-focused adult day health care programs — structured programming that supports cognitive function and provides caregiver respite.

Primary care visits

Routine primary care, medication management, and specialist referral appointments that memory care patients must attend but cannot navigate independently.

Diagnostic imaging

MRI, PET scans, and other neurological imaging that may require the patient to remain calm and still — best supported with a familiar, prepared driver for the trip.

Infusion therapy

Patients receiving newer Alzheimer's therapies like anti-amyloid infusions (Leqembi, Kisunla) at infusion centers require scheduled recurring transport with staff coordination.

Facility-to-appointment trips

Residents of memory care facilities and assisted living who need off-site medical appointments. We coordinate directly with facility staff for handoff.

For families and care coordinators

How families book memory care transport

In most cases, a family member or professional care coordinator books on behalf of the patient. We make this straightforward — one call sets up the driver, the schedule, and the communication protocol.

  • Tell us about the patient's dementia stage, behavioral patterns, and any triggers we should know
  • Provide the best contact number for day-of confirmations and any issues
  • Request same-driver assignment explicitly — we honor this whenever possible
  • For Medicaid: the family member can call MAS at 1-844-666-6270 on behalf of the patient
  • Facility coordinators can book directly — we are experienced working with Long Island memory care and ALF staff
